Fly-tipping and littering is a worldwide problem with 48% of people admitting to dropping litter in public, whilst there has been a 500% increase in litter dropped in the UK over the past 60 years. This is not only having a detrimental effect on the environment but has been impacting communities and causing councils to spend over 1 billion per year in clean up this not including damage caused by rats and other pests being attracted to the area.
Wastewatch Cam is a bespoke solution to tackle the problem of fly-tipping and littering in the UK. Developed in association with Kingdom Group and Kingdom Local Authority Support (LAS) as a complete end-to-end solution to detect fly tipping and littering incidents accurately and reliably. This is done through a bespoke algorithm developed by BI3 as part of our Business Intelligence solutions. This is then supported by ANPR to recognise and link the incident to a vehicle.
This is an effective and intelligent solution that gives power back to councils or any area management and clean-up projects. Fly tipping has been steadily on the rise especially over the pandemic with many closures and difficulty disposing of waste materials. This has led to many councils having to face the mounting cost of cleaning up common fly-tipping areas leaving many without recourse to deal with the issue and enforce the laws that aim to protect the environment and keep your local area respectable.
This system has been implemented into a range of councils and boroughs where a dramatic drop in fly tipping has been achieved. A council in Kent has been able to report a 99% fall in a fly tipping hotspot. This is even more impressive with fly-tipping not seeing a rise elsewhere in the community, leading a reduced need for councils to hire clean up or officer patrols, which is ineffective especially in rural areas of the community that cannot be watched on a long-term basis.
Wastewatch Cam is an effective solution to fly tipping and can help keep the community clean, save the environment and prevent perpetrators form continuing to cause local areas to become filled with pests.
